Scritch, scratch.

As Villain watches the spindly letters scratch into the wall.

H-E-L-L-

There’s a hissing crack as the last letter appears, the only letter that is drawn with a curve, biting into the stone, all grey except for dripping blackish red liquid leaking into the shape of each letter.

H-E-L-L-O

“S-sir…?” The little boy in the center of the room trembles so violently it’s a wonder he’s still standing. All grey as slate, everything around him except the twinkling bloody ocean around him. So much blood from one small body, just one corpse on the floor. Well…really just fragmented limbs.

And walls all around them, grey and cold as nothing else could be.

“Come along, child.” He says softly, pulling the boy to him. Instinctively, even as if this was natural to him, he pulls his cloak over the child shielding his face from the sight. This is all so very dark and grim, he stiffly wraps an arm around the boy’s shoulders. So innocent and pure still, too innocent for such a sight. “You don’t need to remember this…”

“I…w-what’s that?” The boy squirms out of his hold to point to the writing on the wall, but Nathair pulls him back again into a safe cocoon under his cloak.

“Nothing, my prince.” He says, with a touch of his hand wiping the memories away as he walks the boy upstairs. “Nothing at all.”

“W-what happened to Felicity…?”

“Nothing happened to her, your father let her go. She’s going far, far away but she wanted me to tell you she already misses you.” He brushes his hand against the boy’s forehead again, careful to take away all recollection of this night as he propels the child away from the figure still hiding in the basement and the words still scratched in the wall, taunting.
